The Desert

Oh hi guys!

We have built a desert! It is a terrarium! It’s plants is just dragonfruit. It is inside. Remember, definately not the desert you think of! And theres just one thing, it is very wet.

The dragonfruits were grown and we didn’t really add them to any of our things, so we’re going to tell you this: the dragonfruit in a wet place is doing great! It’s like very big. We got the seeds from the real plant! From the fruit from the grocery store! I’m very creative.

This is a tour of my garden. All of it! Really. On the left top corner, the peas are making flowers!

OK, the ones in the middle are the cucumbers. Those cucumbers are doing well, what cucumbers do! They’re growing, the leaf is more than 3 centimeters! It’s one inch long!

The top right is tom thumb lettuce. That’s supposed to be very small. If you get a big kind of that, that is not tom thumb. It is kind of paleish green.

Here is my entire shelf! That’s a lot. The top shelf is my terrarium in the front corner, and my favorite – my tanks! The right tank is the one where my beta fish was, now it’s not there. Now it’s got shrimp, another kind of fish, and a snail. In the left corner there is supposed to be baby shrimp but now maybe they’re dead. But there are isopods! They are too small to be shrimp.

The clay balls above and in the below right corner are clay balls! They’re very great for plants, especially big plants. They are for hydroponics. I got them at Ikea! One of my favorite places. In the world!

It’s a very special system when they grow in water. The shrimp tanks plants are naturally hydroponic. Hey! Notice those floaters? It’s called duckweed! Silly name. Anyway, there is no sand on the bottoms. Why? I chose it.

For my hydroponics, they get the nutrients from a special kind of fertilizer for hydroponics. We use Fox Farm. They grow better than if we just used water. We also add hydrogen peroxide. That is oxygen for the plants and it disinfects and keeps algae from growing.

Pretty soon we will answer your questions about my garden, and other stuff.

I’m having green dumplings for lunch, Dad made them. They are green because of spinach! I love spinach, weirdly without recognizing it!

Hopefully I will get another shelf for my tanks, of course! My goal is to breed shrimp, and I want them to have stages of where they are. I want some to be bioluminescent. Soon we will get bioluminescent fish. Which is cool too.
